About Roberta
You are?
Hi, I'm Roberta Ng. That would be Robert with an A....ROBERTA, named after Roberta Flack, singer of the 1973 number-one hit song Killing Me Softly. Not Robert Ang or Robert Ng. I'm not sure how, but people tend to misread the name all the time. On the bright side, it always makes a great conversation starter!
Oh, and you can call me Robbie for short.
Do you work?
Yes, I'm currently a freelance writer and proofreader. The greatest joy of this job is the variety of information that I'm exposed to, which may or may not come handy to life. It's like I never left school - a continuous learning process of different subject matters. Deadlines included.
How did you start out as a writer and proofreader?
My interest in writing began at age 13 when I won an essay-writing competition in school. I also contributed a few of my writings to the school magazine, one of which became an instant favourite among my peers. Although it was submitted anonymously as a class submission, hearing that other people truly enjoyed the article as it is was extremely gratifying.
As for the proofreading part...I'm pretty anal about grammar. A "Grammar Nazi", if you will. I won't say that my grammar is perfect, but I wouldn't be sore about learning the correct way things ought to be said.
What else do you do?
I like to sketch pictures and surf the Internet during my free time. I also enjoy participating in contests. In fact, I've won several slogan contests over the years!
